7TH SHORTCUTZ AMSTERDAM ANNUAL AWARDS

Every year we invite inspiring film personalities to deliver a speech to inspire the new generation to create more and better movies. It’s our way of trying to create an awards ceremony where everybody wins something, at the very least some inspiration.

MR ZEE AWARDS

In this ceremony, we award the best of Dutch short film, granting prizes in 10 jury-categories: Mr Zee Best Director, Mr Zee Best Documentary Film, Mr Zee Best Animation Film, Mr Zee Best Experimental Film, Mr Zee Best Screenplay, Mr Zee Best Cinematography, Mr Zee Best Editing, Mr Zee Best Actor, Mr Zee Best Actress and Mr Zee Best Film.

The latter is awarded €15,000 worth of services by Filmmore and Cam-a-lot, €7,500 each. Cam-a-lot also awards the winner of Mr Zee Best Cinematography with equipment rental worth € 2,500 and Filmmore awards the winner of Mr Zee Editing with post-production facilities worth € 2,500.

JURY TEAM

Our jury team was this year composed of producer Jan Harlan (The Shining), director Hany Abu-Assad (The Mountain Between Us), Senior Executive Producer Warner Bros’ Stage 13: Kim Sherman, director Roel Reiné (Marvel’s Inhumans); actress Willeke van Ammelrooy (Antonia’s Line); actor Tygo Gernandt (Van God Los); director Eddy Terstall (Simon); producer Pieter Kuijpers (Van God Los); Marina Blok, Head of Drama NTR; actor Vincent van Ommen (Amsterdam Heavy), Programmer De Balie Parwin Mirrahimy, EYE senior programmer and head of acquisitions René Wolf, actress Sigrid ten Napel (Penoza), and street-artist Laser 3.14.

THE 1ST RUTGER HAUER AWARD GOES TO PAUL VERHOEVEN

This newly created RUTGER HAUER AWARD honours our late ambassador, jury member and board advisor Rutger Hauer, who has played an instrumental role in the success and development of Shortcutz Amsterdam. This award is given to an individual or institution who, like Rutger Hauer, has had a positive and inspiring impact on the next generation of Dutch filmmakers. The recipient of the award is decided upon by the Foundation Shortcutz Amsterdam’s Board, previous honourees and Rutger Hauer’s family. The first recipient is director PAUL VERHOEVEN. Rutger Hauer’s wife, INEKE TEN CATE will present the award, which has been designed by Dutch artist Folkert de Jong at 7th Shortcutz Amsterdam Annual Award.

AUDIENCE AWARD

Shortcutz Amsterdam also went international for the Mr Zee Audience Award. This Award, is the audience’s favourite film from our screenings made between December and 15th January 2020 throughout the world with our regional partners: AMSTERDAM (The Netherlands), ARNHEM (The Netherlands), BERLIN (Germany), DORNBIRN (Austria), EDINBURGH (UK), EINDHOVEN (The Netherlands), FARO (Portugal), FIGUEIRA DA FOZ (Portugal), FUNCHAL (Portugal), GUIMARÃES (Portugal), HONG KONG (Hong Kong), JOHANNESBURG (South Africa), LEEUWARDEN (The Netherlands), LISBOA (Portugal), LONDON (UK), LUANDA (Angola), MARMARIS (Turkey), MOSCOW (Russia), ORANJESTAD (Aruba), PESCARA (Italy), PORTO (Portugal), ROTTERDAM (The Netherlands), SANTA CATARINA (Brazil), SKOPJE (Macedonia), UTRECHT (The Netherlands), VENLO (The Netherlands), VIENNA (Austria), and VLISSINGEN (The Netherlands). The winner will also be announced at the ceremony.
